The isolated neck lift: who is it for?

A neck lift can be performed on its own, independently of a facelift, when ageing is concentrated on the neck while the rest of the face remains harmonious. This is often the case in relatively young patients whose skin still has good elasticity but who present: laxity limited to the neck, vertical bands (platysma muscle), excess fat under the chin (“double chin”), or a blurred angle beneath the chin. Conversely, when the sagging also affects the cheeks and jawline, a full face-and-neck lift gives a more harmonious result: an isolated neck procedure is warranted when the mid-face is not involved.

How does the procedure work?

It is performed under general anaesthesia or under local anaesthesia with sedation, depending on the extent of the procedure. The discreet incisions are hidden around the ear and sometimes under the chin. The technique repositions the deep tissues — not just the skin — for a natural, long-lasting result.

Recovery, day by day

Painless swelling and bruising appear in the first days. About ten days are usually needed before resuming normal social life; the final result becomes apparent after a few weeks, once the swelling has settled.
